Join us at Aquanorth Diving Centre for our Dive Against Debris program, an initiative committed to combating underwater pollution and fostering healthier, cleaner oceans. This specialised dive activity is not only about scuba diving but also incorporates an environmental service that has a tangible impact on our marine ecosystems. Ideal for divers who are passionate about conservation, this program empowers participants to actively participate in removing debris and collecting data that contributes to global marine conservation efforts.
Program Overview
Dive Against Debris enables divers to gain the skills to conduct underwater surveys, identify and safely remove marine debris, and record and report data on the types and quantities of debris collected. This data is crucial as it helps inform policy changes and waste management strategies to improve the health of marine habitats.
Program Objectives and Structure
The Dive Against Debris program combines environmental education with practical diving experience to equip divers with the knowledge and skills needed to make a difference.
Educational Workshop
Participants begin with an educational workshop that covers:
- The impact of marine debris on ocean health and marine life.
- Safety protocols for debris removal.
- Techniques for categorizing and documenting debris.
- Best practices for ecological monitoring and reporting.
Dive Against Debris Survey Dive
The core of the program is the survey dive, where participants apply what they’ve learned:
- Conduct a Dive Against Debris survey under the guidance of our experienced instructors.
- Collect debris following safe removal and minimal environmental disturbance techniques.
- Sort, record, and dispose of the debris appropriately post-dive.
Certification and Contribution
Participants who complete the Dive Against Debris will receive an eCard acknowledging their contribution and skills in marine conservation efforts. They will also know that the data they helped collect is part of a global dataset used by PADI AWARE to advocate for better policies and waste management practices to protect ocean life.
