The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is a comprehensive program designed for dive professionals who wish to take the next step in their careers by becoming PADI Instructors. This course equips candidates with the skills, knowledge, and teaching techniques necessary to instruct divers at all levels of PADI courses, from Discover Scuba Diving up to Divemaster. The IDC is not just about passing an exam; it's about becoming a leader in the diving community, inspiring and educating new divers.
Course Objectives and Structure
The PADI IDC is structured to refine your diving knowledge, improve your teaching skills, and ensure you can effectively use the PADI System of diver education. It combines interactive learning, practical application, and hands-on teaching experiences.
Knowledge Development
The IDC begins with comprehensive knowledge development sessions covering dive theory, standards, and the PADI educational philosophy. Candidates will engage in a series of workshops and presentations, both preparing and delivering their own, to develop a deep understanding of course content and teaching methodologies.
Confined and Open Water Teaching
Practical teaching skills are developed through confined water teaching presentations, where candidates practice and demonstrate their ability to conduct skill development sessions with students. Similarly, in open water teaching presentations, candidates apply their knowledge and skills to instructing students in an open water environment, focusing on diver safety and mastery of dive skills.
Dive Theory and Standards Exam
Candidates must demonstrate a thorough understanding of dive theory and mastery of PADI Standards through written examinations. These assessments ensure that all instructor candidates possess the knowledge necessary to teach safely and effectively.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the IDC and passing the PADI Instructor Examination (IE), a separate evaluative program conducted by PADI, candidates receive their PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification. This certification allows you to teach a range of PADI courses, opening up vast opportunities within the diving industry worldwide.
